The island has no gate, so the few tickets you can buy on a Skye trip are for the paid doors: two castles and a distillery. None of those tickets is in a shared tour fare, and the best-known castle is not even on the island. Here is what each costs, when it opens, and which of the Isle of Skye guided tours give you time to go in.
Eilean Donan stands on its own islet at Dornie, where three sea lochs meet, on the mainland just before the Skye Bridge. Almost every tour from Inverness and many from Edinburgh stop here on the way to Skye. The stop is the question: some give you time to go inside, others ten or fifteen minutes for a photograph.
Leave your rucksack in the free lockers by the visitor centre: large bags are not allowed inside. A tour with an hour here gives you time for the rooms and the bridge; a ten-minute stop does not.
Dunvegan Castle is the seat of the chiefs of Clan MacLeod, on the shore of Loch Dunvegan in the north-west of Skye. It is the one paid castle on the island itself, and it is shut for half the year. The castle suggests you give it at least two hours for the rooms, the gardens and the seal trip.
Talisker Distillery stands on Loch Harport, about 45 minutes' drive from Portree. The MacAskill brothers founded it in 1830, and it is the oldest working distillery on Skye. You can visit the shop and the bar without a tour.
No shared tour stops at Talisker. The Macleod private tours from Edinburgh or Glasgow give it 45 minutes, and their fares exclude entrance fees, so you pay for any tasting yourself.

A stop of an hour or more is enough to enter a castle. Under half an hour, you see it from outside. The table reads each tour's own itinerary. Among the day tours from Inverness, the Highland Explorer day gives Eilean Donan an hour and the Timberbush day gives it 1 h 25; the Highland Experience and WOW Scotland days stop for a photograph.

The top 3-day tour from Edinburgh stops at Eilean Donan for fifteen minutes on its way home. If you want the castle rooms, pick a tour from the table or add the castle to a day of your own.
Pick a tour that stops long enough, then pay £13 at the castle. Every card on the tour list says what kind of stop it makes.
No fare includes Eilean Donan, because the castle does not sell its tickets in advance. One listing prints the adult price as £12, but the castle's own 2026 price is £13, so bring the higher figure.
So a winter trip still has Talisker and the view of Eilean Donan, but no castle rooms on Skye. The tours still run, and the sights on the hills stay open; see what to see for those.
Both castles set rules you should know before you pack for the day. Eilean Donan does not let rucksacks or large bags inside, and keeps free lockers by the visitor centre. Dunvegan does not allow pushchairs or baby backpack carriers inside the castle, so bring a sling for a small child.
Dogs are welcome in the Dunvegan gardens on a lead, but only assistance dogs may go into the castle. On a tour, check your operator's own rule on dogs before you book.
