Isle of Skye Tour Prices: What Each Fare Covers
The short answer. A shared day tour costs $94 to $162 from Inverness, or $134 from Portree. A 3-day tour costs $245 to $761, and a 5-day tour $824 to $1,245. The spread inside each band comes from three things: whether the room is in the fare, how big the group is, and how many hours you get on the island.
There is no ticket to the island itself, so the fares for Isle of Skye tours and tickets are the whole price of a visit, plus a few extras at the door. Here is what each band buys, from the operators' own figures, captured in September 2026.

What does an Isle of Skye day tour cost?
From Inverness, a shared day costs $94 to $162. The cheapest is the Timberbush day at $94; the dearest is WOW Scotland's day at $162. From Portree, the shared day costs $134.
Those fares buy the transport and a guide or a commentating driver. They do not buy lunch, tips or castle tickets. Budget £13 more if you want to go inside Eilean Donan.
What does an hour on the island cost?
This is the fairer comparison, because a day tour from Inverness spends most of its hours on the mainland. Divide each fare by the time the operator gives to stops on Skye:
- Timberbush day: $94 for about an hour and twenty minutes of island stops, or $71 an hour.
- Highland Explorer day: $98 for about three hours, or $33 an hour.
- Highland Experience Fairy Pools day: $107 for about four hours, or $27 an hour.
- The day from Portree: $134 for all eight hours, or $17 an hour.
The Timberbush day spends its longest stop at Eilean Donan, which is on the mainland. If the castle is what you want, it is good value. If the island is, it is the dearest hour on the list.
What does a 3-day tour cost, and what is in it?
Shared 3-day tours cost $245 to $761 a person. At the top of the band, the fare includes two nights' rooms with breakfast and, on the Highland Explorer steam-train tours, the Jacobite. At the bottom, the room is yours to book.
The Highland Explorer 3-day, at $510, sits in the middle: two nights in a Portree guesthouse, breakfasts, and a 24-hour refund. Its detail is on the 3-day tour page.
Why does one 3-day tour cost $245 and another $713?
Because they sell different things. The Hairy Coo tour at $245 includes no rooms. You book your own in Inverness, where both nights are spent, and the island is a round trip on the middle day. The coach carries up to 37.
Rabbie's 3-day at $713 includes two nights of B&B or 3-star hotel in Portree, breakfast, and a minibus of sixteen at most. It needs 21 days' notice to refund. Per day, that is $82 against $238, before the Hairy Coo traveller has paid for a bed.
What do you pay on top of the fare?
These are the extras most fares leave out, with the official prices where they exist:
- Eilean Donan: £13 for adults in 2026, £12 for over-60s, £6.50 for children over five. Sold at the door only.
- Dunvegan Castle and Gardens: £17.50 for adults, open 1 April to 15 October. It is a fare option on the Highland Explorer Dunvegan day and included on the Portree private day.
- A Loch Ness cruise: excluded by name on the HAGGiS, Discover Scotland, Hairy Coo and Experience Scotland's Wild tours, and an optional extra on Highland Experience.
- Meals: lunch on every tour, dinner on every multi-day tour.
- Tips: never in the fare. Several operators list gratuities as excluded.

What do the 4-day and 6-day tours cost?
The shared 4-day tours cost $925 to $1,076. Rabbie's, at $925, includes three nights en-suite with breakfast and needs 21 days' notice to refund. The Highland Experience 4-day, at $1,076, adds a one-way ride on the Jacobite in summer and refunds nothing. The private Macleod 4-day costs $2,180 a person, and the rooms are yours to book.
The 6-day tours cross to Lewis and Harris before Skye. The Highland Explorer tour costs $1,661 with five nights of B&B and every ferry in the fare, and refunds at 24 hours. Rabbie's costs $1,770 with five nights en-suite, the round-trip ferries and entry to the Arnol Blackhouse, and needs 21 days' notice. Room included, room optional, or your own?
On a multi-day tour this is the largest single cost. Three models exist:
- In the fare: the Highland Explorer, Rabbie's and Highland Experience tours, with breakfast.
- An option: Timberbush and Experience Scotland's Wild sell their room on top of a tour-only fare.
- Yours to book: the Hairy Coo, Discover Scotland and Macleod private tours.
A low fare with no room is not a bargain until you have priced the room, so price it before you book the tour.
Per person or per group?
Every fare we list is per person except one. The Happy Tours private day from Inverness costs $1,062 for the vehicle, for up to three people, with an option for a larger group. The other private tours charge each person in your party.
How strict are the refund windows?
Strict, and they vary more than the fares. Every shared day tour refunds in full up to 24 hours ahead. The multi-day tours range from 24 hours to 21 days' notice, and the Highland Experience 4-day and the Explore Skye private day refund nothing at all.

What does a private tour cost per head?
A private day costs $398 to $744 a person. For three people, the Happy Tours day's single fare works out at $354 each. The Macleod private 3-day and 4-day tours cost $1,737 and $2,180 a person, before rooms. Compare them on the private Isle of Skye tours page.
What do solo travellers pay?
On a day tour, the same as anyone. On a multi-day tour, a single room is sold as its own fare option by Rabbie's, Timberbush, Highland Experience and Experience Scotland's Wild. Highland Experience asks solo travellers to choose that option. The Highland Explorer multi-day tours sell no single room and take bookings of two or more.
Is the cheapest tour good value?
It depends on what you want. The cheapest day, at $94, is good value for the castle and a first look at the island. The cheapest 3-day, at $245, is good value if you are happy to book rooms in Inverness.
The longer tours cost less per day than you might think. The HAGGiS 5-day comes to $165 a day with hostel beds, Rabbie's 5-day to $249 with en-suite rooms, and the Highland Explorer 6-day to $277 with the Hebrides ferries.
